Winter blankets the lodge in an unimaginably quiet solitude.  Moose, timber wolves and deer magically appear at your door.   Heated cabins, crackling wood fires, and a relaxing family-size sauna add a coziness to your snow-filled vacation.
     Fifty miles of marked, wilderness ski trails encircle the lodge.   Snowshoe to the many islands dotting Big Lake, or step back in time to one of the area's

more popular winter experiences -- mushing a team of sled dogs from lodge to lodge, with an experienced guide.  Area winter activities include timber wolf and environmental seminars, ice fishing, photography, animal tracking, and local winter festivals.
     It goes without saying, northern Minnesota winter vacations are filled with the wildest experiences in nature.

The animals come closer than any other time of year.  Deer feed from the palms of our hands and guests have said they actually heard a moose breathe.
